Professor Rob Perrons of QUT was honoured to speak at the United Nations UNECE Resource Management conference last week in Geneva, Switzerland, to discuss “How Geopolitics Could Stifle Innovation in the Resource Sector, and What We Can Do About It.”

Achieving the global community’s green energy ambitions and delivering the required amounts of energy and minerals to the global market will almost certainly require significant technological advances by the resource sector. However, recent geopolitical events–specifically, a meteoric rise in the number of patent filings “of dubious merit”–could significantly impede the global innovation system’s ability to make the required technological improvements. In his presentation, Rob explained the problem and offered a few potential solutions.  A recording is available by Clicking here.
