Competency Development and Skills Recognition for Life Cycle Asset Management of Royal Australian Navy Ships and Submarines.
Project Overview:
This research project, supported by a full time Industry PhD scholarship, will identify the method to recognise naval asset management specialists by codifying experience, education, and training requirements for inclusion in Defence’s Sustainment Management Professionalisation and Certification Framework. The outcomes of this project are to develop a suite of Asset Management tools, including a Competency Framework for Lifecycle Asset Management of Naval Vessels including ships and submarines, and an update of the skills and capabilities requirements for asset managers according to international best practice.
The successful candidate will be based in the Centre of Innovative Practice within ECU’s School of Business & Law, in partnership with BMT Design & Technology, who specialise in marine engineering services and offer a range of services to the maritime and defence industries.
Candidates will need to have the following skills in order to undertake the project: Communication skills to engage with industry; high level research and writing skills for the production of industry reports and thesis; presentation skills to present research findings in a clear manner; fundamental understanding of Asset Management standards and best practices; and understanding of Defence acquisition and sustainment policies. Experience in two or more of the following is highly desirable: commercial asset management practices; internationally recognised asset management standards, practices and activities; naval acquisition and sustainment policies; and Australian Qualifications Framework and professionalisation activities within Australia and international societies.
