Reliability, Resilience, and Renewal: Navigating Asset Decisions in the Energy Transition

The Asset Institute and the QUT Energy Transition Centre invite members and guests to our 2026 Annual Forum and Symposium.

The energy transition is reshaping the physical asset base. Ageing thermal generation is being required to operate well beyond its intended design life amid uncertain retirement signals. New wind, solar and storage assets bring operations-and-maintenance challenges that are not yet well understood, and operators must plan across a wide range of possible future grid configurations. This forum brings the asset-management and energy communities together to discuss how we keep supply secure and reliable, and costs low, for both new and existing assets.

Themes

• Legacy and end-of-life assets — managing “post-prime” assets beyond their design life: recertification, cost–risk–performance trade-offs, and failure risks from start–stop cycling.
• Future transition scenarios — the futures the energy system could take, and how organisations can adapt their asset strategies.
• Energy roadmaps and policy signals — how state and national roadmaps and policy choices shape investment.
• O&M of new renewable assets — improving operations and maintenance for wind and solar, including the gap between field experience and assumed degradation.
• Workforce and knowledge management — retaining expertise for ageing thermal assets while building capability in renewable O&M, AI-enabled maintenance and supply-chain resilience.

Format: Keynote addresses, shorter talks and a plenary panel. The full program and speakers will be announced soon.

Who should attend: Senior managers, policy makers, generators and operators, service providers, consultants, academics and government.
